Trade and economic development of Arzamas and its uyezd in the system of the Nizhny Novgorod viceroyalty

Annotation

Since the middle of the РҐVIII centure the Arzamas Uyezd had become an evident economic event and trade transport point in the Russian domestic market system, taking the first place of the trade development level in the Nizhny Novgorod Governorate. Arzamas was one of the most important transit points for the goods of the Makaryev Fair and Nizhny Novgorod Fair, it was the constant supplier of big lots of leather, fur, canvas, soap, yarn, candles, leather and felt shoes, metal goods. In the second half of the XIX century the goods traffic going through Arzamas was gradually decreasing.
