This article discusses the different points of view of domestic and foreign researchers about the reasons for the appearance of the first state emblems on the reddish seal attached to the СЃharter of 1497. The horseman striking a dragon with a spear on the front side and the double-headed eagle on the back side. Lists and discusses the foreign and domestic causes of the use of these emblems on the seal of 1497. Analyzes the explanation of the symbolism of these emblems in domestic and foreign literature.
