The article considers the significance and role of law enforcement agencies in the system of state bodies of Russia responsible for ensuring national security. Legislative bases of participation of law enforcement bodies in maintenance of questions of the state and public safety are studied. The significance of the Russian National Security Strategy for the period up to 2010 is disclosed for the participation of law enforcement agencies in ensuring national security issues. The participation of law enforcement agencies in the prevention of risks and threats to national security was determined. At the present stage, the role of law enforcement agencies in the fight against threats to national security in the sphere of culture is growing. There is a gradual expansion of the functions of law enforcement agencies in solving problems of national security.
