On September 15, 1952 the Soviet Union and China signed В«The contract on assistance and cooperation in cultivation and production of rubber between People's Republic of China and the Soviet UnionВ». According to this contract, the Soviet Union assumed the obligation to allow China a loan and the equipment and to deliver experts, and also to render other types of help, with the purpose to arrange cultivation and production of rubber in the People's Republic of China; China assumed the obligation to repay the loan with produced goods. The most suitable climatic conditions for this production were on Hainan island, which served as an incitement to its development. In ten years of cooperation this production ran a difficult way from В«great boomВ» to В«great changeВ». This article explores three aspects of history of this cooperation: positive role of the Soviet Union and its negative influence, and also the mistakes in rubber production management made by the Chinese policy.
