The article identifies directions of confessional policy of the Russian Federation in respect of Islamic religious associations in the context of national security policy. Attention is paid to the legal regulation of confessional policy and its goal-setting in the speeches of political leaders of the state. The influence of the institutional structure of the Islamic religious associations in the confessional policy is established. Recommendations on improvement of methods of interaction of the state with Islamic religious associations in countering extremism are made. The forecast of development of Russian confessional policy in the area of the spread of Islam is done.
