The article is devoted to functioning principles of The Little Man's character from N. Gogol's and L. Andreev's poetics. The author tries to found how both writers use this character with realistic method. The author accents difference between a literature type and a typical case in connection with Gogol's and Andreev's oeuvre and detailed analyzes problematic of this phenomenon.
