The article is devoted to the formation of image of Kazakh on the Lower Volga frontier. The authors show the transformation of the views of the Russian population at the Kazakhs during the XIX - early XX centuries, through the prism of concepts Stranger/Other. For the analysis of the position of Alien on the frontier authors used the indicators, proposed by Yakushenkova O.S.: locus, temporality, the economy and modus vivendi. All four indicators considered in the dynamics. As a result, the authors conclude that the transformation takes place by way of the Stranger as aggressive savage to the image of Other , a contact neighbor, who accepted the offer rules.
