It provides a comparative analysis of concepts of social, historical and cultural memory, shows specifics of cultural memory, the factors of making it into «places of memory». Specificity of cultural dialogue at different stages of the frontier is analyzed. Keeping in mind that a frontier is a territory inhabited usually by different ethnic groups, any cultural dialogue in such conditions, takes various forms - from peaceful to military. Not only human participate in this fight, but also ideas, symbols, etc. Specific examples of World and Russian history (the events in Chechnya 1819 and "the Massacre at Wounded-Knee" in the US) the authors try to show the role of certain signifcata in cultural dialogue and in the shaping of a new cultural landscape.</p></abstract><abstract xml:lang="en"><p>The article is devoted to signification of cultural memory on the frontier territories.
