The question of improvement of grant system as a way of support of scientific activity in Russia is raised in the article. The main disadvantages of contest support of scientific projects are pointed out among which are not great quantity and financing of grants and the problems of quality and clarity of expert evaluation. The foreign experience of grant projects evaluation is observed and some ways of removal of Russian grant system points of tenderness are outlined.
