The subject of the article is polemological paradigm research the phenomenon of war. The purpose of the work consists in the analysis of this paradigm from the point of view of its theoretical and methodological components. The article used a variety of methods: in-depth analysis and interpretation of research texts, comparative analysis of the different concepts on the issue of war. The choice of the subject due to the fact that polemological paradigm for the study of war recognised in Europe and abroad in the second half of the twentieth century was required and recognized in many countries of Western Europe. The polemology proposed sufficiently coherent concept and methodology that has allowed to reflect real processes occurring influencing the origin of wars and military conflicts. Theoretical and methodological setting of this science have greatly influenced the formation of contemporary approaches to the study of the phenomenon of war. Many of its representatives at the present time are independent researchers, using the experience gained in the framework of the French school of polemology. Result is the conclusion about the relevance of mainstreaming, and within the limits of the methods of science. The research results can be political science, conflict studies, social philosophy, military science.
