The article is devoted to changes of gender roles on the American frontier in the 19th century. New tasks that are faced by women in the framework of the cultural dialogue were often the cause of masculinity behavior and loss of women’s identification. The article considers the cases of gender transformation, which being the exception rather than the rule, however are responsible for the formation of a frontier culture.
